Feature Car of the Month

This is my little Fiat Cinquecento. Your first car is always your favourite! It’s got the very powerful 899cc engine! And I am so proud of this fact that I have put a sticker in the rear window saying “899cc AND TRYING MY HARDEST”. Everyone who gets in my car always comes out with a bit smile on their faces. It is like an adventure. I know it is seriously uncool, but it is also the best.

I haven’t done much to it, can’t really afford to. The first modification I did was to change the side repeater lenses to clear ones, only because I lost one and couldn’t find any orange lenses anywhere! Next on the list were the racing stripes. I told all my friends I was going to do it and they were like “No, you won’t do it”. Went into college on the Monday and they were like “Oh, you did do it”. But despite the myth about Go-Faster stripes, they don’t workL. As my hubcaps were a bit scabby, I painted them in Rover Hurricane Grey. Not a bad little job I did there! It was either paint the hubcaps or the steels, but I think I made the right decision. I have also painted the filler cap in Italian flag stripes! This even inspired my brother to do a chequered flag on his filler cap. Everyone looks at my car and either goes “****” or “yeah, loving it!!” But the people who go “****” are the ****s who have no appreciation for good cars!

I haven’t done much underneath the bonnet. There isn’t much there to do! The engine is tiny! I have changed the oil and filters all by myself and I am well pleased with this! Have done the rear brakes a few times. I don’t intend on doing much to the engine, there isn’t much point really. It’s had a new exhaust; the other had a gurt big hole in! New drive shaft gaiters (that was a nightmare too fix).
Jobs that need doing are the tappets. Don’t get me started on them!! The track rod ends are seized, but new ones are in the foot-well of my car as I bought them on the way home yesterday. Need some new front brake pads. Hopefully this will be done over Christmas.

I do have an ultimate plan for my car, but this is at least 10 years down the line! I am going to keep my car when I go to university, and when I come back and saved up a fair bit of money I am going to either: Turbo, Supercharge or motorbike engine it! How cool would that be!! Supercharger is sounding like the best option at the moment. But I will still need to rebuild the engine! Once this has been done I will then track day it!

My car wouldn’t be possible without the help of my step-dad. He has helped me to fix my car when it goes wrong. So thank you.
