cut the beam, set all the angles with guages, braced it all up and re-welded the beam. Sounds a bit easier than it is, but it looked like the most reliable way to do it.

If I had modified the trailing arms, symetry would have been a problem. And a custom rose joint job would have cost way too much. Also, there is plenty of metal on the beam to re-weld and keep the strength.
