After only 2 weeks, my cinquecento is now running a 1242 16v engine. As you can  see, I'm new to this forum, so I had no idea if it would work when I started the project. I decided not to seek any advice before I started, I wanted to see if I could do it myself. I always like to find origanal solutions to problems, I think that's half the fun.

I found the job quite easy although it was a tight fit. The wiring was easy and the exhaust only took a few hours to fabricate.

I took it for a test drive today, and is goes pretty well but it is a bit hard to tell as the roads are a bit slippery, but I can tell the engine is running fine.

Now all I need to do is find another to see if I have done it the same way!

it is quite easy to fit the 1242 it is bolt for bolt etc etc. mine was done by fullpint in the autumn last year. u will defo notice the extra power.  sounds like you have done a great job with no help or advice from others. happy motoring and enjoy the cinq. they are quite infectious. did u put a punto 75 cam in or is it still the 500?

I've used the 85hp engine from the a punto mark 1, cams included.

Nice, get pics up of the car, we run a Sei with 1.4 16V 6speed gearbox, got similar project going on a Cinq, but that's for warmer weather as Emma has bought a new car, so we have 5 now between us, getting silly now lol

I've used the 85hp engine from the a punto mark 1, cams included.

I thought the punto 75 ran at 77hp not 85hp..engine code 176A in this list..866 cam gives 15.4 hp more over stock 60 hp 1242 cam..

Pandaman,  I believe the 75hp motor is the 1242cc 8valve engine. I used the 85hp (86hp) 16 valve engine, hence the tight fit. I lifted it from a mark 1 punto, complete with the ecu. The mark 2 punto only had 80hp. emissions I think.

Ah Ha ..that's the sporting model then ..when ever anyone says Mk1 I automatically think Mk1 8v and not the 16valver..

So it's been running for a few weeks now and I have sorted out the teething troubles. Alternator alignment and electrical problems.

I'm now looking for a strut brace for it. All of the pictures that I have seen look like the brace will go where the inlet manifold is.

Has anybody got any exprience of fitting a strut brace to a 16 valve cinq?

We have a strut brae fitted to our Sei 16V, the one meant for the MPi Sei fits no problem and as Cinq/Sei strut brace bars are interchangeable that's the one to go for.

Sorry I've been a bit quiet for a while, the Cinq bit back. After some high speed lift off oversteer, I rolled it. I'm now looking for a shell donor.

On the good side though, no one was hurt, none of the mods are damaged, and it was one hell of a ride!!!!!!!

Picked up a nice yellow sporting this week, so here I go again!!!

The crashed car is now completely stripped and the parts are lying in the back garden ready to build the Balistic Roller Skate mark 2.

As the accident was partly caused by lift off oversteer, i'm going to be looking at modifying the camber on the back to reduce the chance of it happening again. Before anyone jumps in here, I accept that the accident was driver error, but, let's face it, nobody drives a modified Cinq without testing the limits sometimes.

I seem to be getting quite a collection of sporting engines here, looks like I am going to have to put one in the Panda, scary!!!  Check out the pictures in my gallery.

sounds like you have a fiat owners treasure trove sitting around your garden.  Testing the limits on your modified car, you shud go to a combe action day to do that. it is totally legal then.  nice lot of pics as well.

I am hoping to get to Comb this year, if I can keep the next car upright long enough.

Funny thing, keeping it legal. The lift off oversteer occured whilst slowing for a 40 mph spped limit!!!!

The car had far too much grip on the front end and the back was a bit unstable. When it let go, i just didn't have what it took to power out of it. If I had of gunned it, every thing would have been fine, apart from screaming through the village at 90.

Much as I like spirited driving, there is a time and a place.

Well, all the new suspension is on the yellow shell, the heater, steering rack and column, and the shortened gear stick have been fitted.

I took the time to set up the rear suspension this time. I've set the camber bit more negative, set the toe in, and lined it all up with the front.

Only time will tell if this improves things.
