Nice tank!  I'd think that if you mounted it far enough forward the roll cage would offer enough protection.

Hi Donna, most towns will have a motor club and my local club are these boys http://www.gmsc.org.uk/,

If you just type in your towns name ending with motorsport into the search engine iam sure you will come up trumps,

I have to be honest i have not been at Knockhill enough YET!! : to get to know the ins and outs but i hope to over the next year but yes there is lots of good free advice at Knockhill and there are good lads that will keep you in the loop and help out thats for sure as when i did my last outing i was given more then enough help when i asked for it which was great as i needed it ,

Well its getting mounted in the same postion as the last but iam sure i will be able to run a bar from one side of the cage to the other and if it works out right? there should be one running in line with the back of the tank so iam happy with that, well see,

Happy New Year Guys and Girls

Sorry guys  no goodies

To be honest i have been having a break from it but iam back on the job!

I have fitted the new tank and mounted it in the same place as the other one as i was more than happy where it was the first time round, although i have mounted the new tank on rubber mounts to keep it off the floor pan so if it does fold up it will stand a better chance of not being damaged?,i have got all the new stainless steel Teflon braided fuel pipes cut and the finishers on and some fitted but not all as iam still waiting on another length to be delivered tomorrow to get it finished off,the fuel pump bracket is WIP and is being moulded as we speak so all going well i should have it up and running again in the next few days,

Iam away to also buy a mechanical lifeline fire extinguisher so i hope to get that fitted in and plumbed in over the next few weeks then i can move onto the 6 point cage i have decided to fit,

Here is a few pics to keep you going until i have the rest done in the next few days,

New foam filled tank with rubber mounts fitted to secure it to the floor pan

And another Sticker

More to follow in the few days,

Cheers Scuderia

It's me, your PITA safety freak again..........

Dunno what pattern those rubbers are. If the stud goes all the way through, then they'll probably help against vibration/fatigue damage to the tank. I'd think they won't do a lot in case of impact, but every bit helps.

If they're two seperate studs, bonded into the rubber, they'll offer better protection against damage to the tank, but there are two points to consider:

1. Static

2. They're probably designed as exhaust rubbers -- even 2 gallons of fuel are much heavier than  an exhaust. There's a possibility that they'll shear in a big impact.

You could eliminate both by making up short tethers (something like an earth strap, but made out of braided stainless) from the bottom stud to the top.

Sorry to be such a pain. Great work, as ever.

Hi Fingers

I have since fitted another 2 normal bolts and locking nuts to each side of the tank just to take the strain,i did think about the braided earth strap but with the ends only being crimped on iam not so sure it would add any protection, the mounts i fitted where fitted more to take the tank up off the floor pan whch they have by about 1",

I got a little more work done on the Teflon briaded fuel lines but it was far to cold up here to work anymore than i did in the garage so more to follow in a few days, apart from that the length of Teflon braided fuel line iam waiting on still as not been delivered ,

All the best Scuderia

I'd have to be "like" braided earth strap, but in stainless with the ends welded on -- you'd possibly find something similar at a chandlers.

Off to the garage in the hope that ASDA have not sold out of fan heaters!

Thanks for thought but iam going for the bolts and locking nuts but iam only going to fit 2 at one side as this then still lets the rubber mounts do there work...not that i fitted them to work in that way but i guess 2 m4-5 bolts will fit the job well,

If iam going to have an accident big enough to rip the tank from it's mountings then iam screwed way before the tank catches fire anyroads!
