would that be the white beemer?Huh? Yeah that looks a good example of the VW Golf, thats a mk 3 isn't it? I think the mk1,2 and 3 were the best and after the mk 3's the golf got as exciting as a kick in the nuts! As for the mk5 well  :piss is all I have to say . Anyway I hope more pics go up of that mean machine, hopefully it will be at Combe.

I lived in Germany for 3 years mate....
As for the Golf.. Sure he said it was the 2.0 GTi.. Got his eyes on a set of coilovers already.
He said its not as fast as the BMW tho Cry..But its got to be half the weight and i reckon a good little car for track and daily use.

The MK3 Golf GTi, have mixed emotions about these cars. A friend bought one a IIRC 1992K reg, at same time I bought a 1990 H reg R5GTT, this was in 1999, the 2L GTi, bit under power for a 2L only 115bhp and 9.9sec 0-60, compared to R5GTT 1.4L 122bhp 7.3 0-60secs.

It was a nice looking car in red a 5door model, inside well made as well, comfortable on longer drives, whole interior stood up well to the eventual 130K the car covered, but it was THE single most unreliable car I have ever known anyone to have.

In 3 years of ownership, It had three brake callipers seize, one rear one on full so car smoked its way for 5miles to my house until i could free it with big hammer. MAF sensor went, something else went as well related to MAF cost over £800 from VW to repair. One MOT cost him £600, clutch release arm snapped, clutch pedal snapped, number plate fell off tail gate one day as what was holding it place turned out to be rust, new tail gate from scrappy sorted that out, sills needed welded again due rust, and there was various other smaller items that went on it.

During same time I had my R5GTT, I had nothing other than two brake pipes for ran MOT to be replaced other than stuff I did like in pursuit of more performance, upgraded brakes disc's, alloy throttle body top etc

The Gold eventually went to scrap yard at the ripe old age of 10 years old, my R5GTT was sold to my mat ein London who ran it for a further 3years from 2003 to 2006 when after all he had to do was replace a water pump and rad, was sold to a guy in Cornwall and AFAIK is still going strong.

I still have found memories of the Golf though I think it a bit through rose coloured glasses as it reminds me of the time my friends and I had some brilliant times.

I hope you have a better time than Jack did!
