is this the right position for the top cable? I thought the reverse inhibitor was further towards the front of the car? with a thinner cable...

I'm looking at the Haynes manual now and to me it looks to high!! Trouble is the pic in book is good but the guy has his thumb in the way.. It may be worth looking at the reverse gear inhibitor cable just to make sure its fitted correctly..

I think the inhibitor can only be attached in one position as it has a bracket attached which only allows it to fit correctly. I will have a look at the old Haynes too

its defo tht reversing cable thats doing it, good news is that my dad thinks he might be able to get it working i think we were all a bit tired that night lol. on the brightside a exhuast gasket came 2day which could stop the exhuast blowing yayyyy. cheers for your help everyone. i think the inspection thing is a bit of joke too be honest cos im not trying to evade a tax band or insurance band it doesnt really change anything. i looked on the internet about it and they only ask certain people sometimes they jus change it and send it back with no problems. bit of a setback but gives me an excuse to get the car running perfectly.

ummm purf the cars not running very well and we think that the 866 cam wasnt put in right when we reshimmed it so it backfires alot and runs very rich. we thinking of taking the 866 cam and doing it again which is a pain but has to be done. cheers.

Did you take the pulley wheel whatever its called off the cam shaft? How can it be wrong? unless you got the exaust and inlet shims wrong? which would prob just make a loud tappet type noise. I must say when I fitted the cam belt on my 866 on sunday the lines on the belt where a load of Bull - i have found that before with the standard 1108 too. It had to be one tooth out according to the belts timing marks. Of course the block and pulley marks were correct. Im sure you have the crank pulley on right with the locating stud? As that will make it fire pressure out the throttle body - i have done that before but it couldnt even start. I had to take the cam out about 6 times to get the shims as close as possible. its a pain! Hey i was tired too when i messed up my gear linkage haha

Some more pics to compare gear linkages The upper bracket is bolted to the bell housing with a 13mm bolt. Can anyone say whether this looks correct?

without any popping, banging wen u press the throttle nd it runs quiet aswell. The only other problem is wen the car is ticking over it contantly revs slightly and hav no idea why??? anyone know wat this could be linked with?
once the revving issue has been sorted then need to get the dash back on sort out a bit of electrical issues, and get aa to do a check on it then iv got to wait for the v5 to com back with the aa check posted to them.
a few other jobs to do then the car maybe be road worthy haha maybe not very safe but atleast i can get back on the roads.
