I have heard tales of people back in the 70's changing plates on cars but thats pretty naughty

(olgit quote.. I aint admiting nuffin, no f***** comment to any of that

)
.... but whats the difference when you could see it as a re-shell.
The reason you cant see it as a re shell is that's what a re shell is, just a new body shell and you use the all the parts from the original donor car including all ID plates so you cant disguise it, that's what we did when I worked at a FORD dealership if a car was in a accident and was badly damaged and was say only a month old the insurance companies sometimes said re shell it
you can change what you like with DVLA its the insurance companies that seem to not want to comply with changes or dont understand them, (example) my son had a ped a Piaggio NRG was a 50cc it was converted to a 125c (but a 172cc really but shhh!) it was all done properly including engineers check and re registered with DVLA as a 125cc, but when we wanted to insure it the insurance company ask for the reg number and siad yes its a 50 cc NRG so we told them what had been done our answer was they dont make a 125 NRG so I couldnt be botherd to argue
