You can never be toooooo old to start some thing..
But as for your son helping If he's any thing like my son then good luck They do like watching but the trouble is getting them out of bed before noon By the time they get up ALL the hard has been done

we will be fine, no probs, easy job and only take about 3-4 hours from start to finish so and early start would be good if your boys don't want to get out of their pit, throw some ice cold water over them, that always works.

As it goes they ain't too bad at waking up when I want them to but if they don't have to its completely like what fullpint  said
