NEWS FROM CASTLE COMBE CIRCUIT - MARCH 2010

With one calendar month to go before the opening race meeting of 2010 excitement is mounting.

The traditional Easter Monday season opener on Monday 5th April will give all our race fans their Spring adrenalin rush for what is shaping up to be a fabulous meeting.  It is the debut of the new AJEC AWD Academy Saloon Car Cup series for 4 wheel drive saloons. Mitsubishi have been an awesome sight at the head of our National Mobile Windscreens Saloon Car Championship for the last couple of years, so to see a whole field of these mixing it with Mitsubishi Evos, Subaru Imprezas and other 4 wheel drive cars should be fabulous.  Add in Alfa Romeo, who celebrate their 100th anniversary with the opening round of their own championship, the Toyota MR2s and Locost Championships we have a great day to look forward too.  However, of course it is also the 1st round of the Castle Combe Championships for Formula Fords, Saloons and the now renamed Sports & GTs which, with the revised regulations will start an astonishing 34 cars making it the biggest grid in this category for many years.

Racing will get underway at 13.00 with Adult admission tickets at £15.00 and Paddock Transfer at £2.50 or why not purchase in advance to enjoy free Paddock admission.

MARSHALS TRAINING DAYS – IT COULD BE YOU!

If you have ever wondered what it is like to become a marshal then we have 2 days coming up to provide all the answers.  The Castle Combe Club’s much acclaimed annual Marshal Training Day takes place on Sunday 21st March.  It is a refresher day for all our regular marshals who play such a vital part in the organisation of all our events, plus it gives newcomers the chance to find out what it is all about and get involved.  If you would like to know more please email our Chief Marshal, Nicki Fawdington on afawdington@hotmail.com

And youngsters too can now get involved.  Castle Combe Racing Club has been podium finishers in the Motorsport ‘Club of the Year’ awards for the last 2 years and were particularly commended on attracting new marshals into this exciting sport of ours.  Youngsters between the ages of 11 – 15 years have the chance to find out what it is like to become a Cadet Marshal, and the important role that they can play in motorsport, by attending our Introduction and Training Day on Saturday 24th April.

For more details or to register your interest, please send an email with your contact details to castlecombecadets@yahoo.co.uk.

NEW STYLE TRACK DAYS

If you have never taken your car or your motorcycle on the circuit before then there is even more opportunities to do so in 2010.  Our popular Track Days will continue, but we have now added an Elite Day for experienced track day drivers with high performance cars and ‘Ladies Only’ sessions, which you can enjoy under the expert guidance of Ilsa Cox.  On the bike side we will debut an Elite Day for experienced riders with high performance bikes, while our new Safety Performance Days run in conjunction with Somerset Road Safety Partnership and Motor Direct Insurance will provide riders of all levels with valuable road and riding skills.  Full details on our website, or for more information please contact Emma Burns in the Circuit office or via email on emma@castlecombecircuit.co.uk.

AUCTION OF VINTAGE AND CLASSIC CARS, MOTORCYCLES AND AUTOMOBILIA – THE CIRCUIT’S BEST KEPT SECRET

For those in the know, Saturday April 17th will already be in their diaries.  It is the date of the first of this year’s Chippenham Auctions Rooms motor related auction which will take place in the College Building.  With viewing on Friday 16th, and the auction taking place on Saturday 17th, come and have a look.  Whilst some of the most collectable cars and bikes go for a lot of money there are Lots available for the price of a few of gallons of petrol.  If you are nervous about bidding, then remember you can leave a pre arranged bid with the friendly team from Chippenham Auction Rooms who will give you all the advice and assistance necessary to make your visit an enjoyable one.  Auctions are great fun.  To view the lots look at the Auction house website at www.chippenhamauctionrooms.co.uk or telephone for more information on 01249 444544.

60TH ANNIVERSARY MEETING – BUY THE SHIRT, GET THE VIDEO

With the 60th anniversary meeting being the highlight of our Diamond Jubilee Year you will find some great anniversary merchandise in the Castle Combe Racing Club’s shop situated next to Race Control.  We have also entered into an agreement with a TV filming company to make a documentary during the weekend of 31st July and 1st August which will feature highlights of all the races, complete coverage of the 3 Castle Combe Championships and interviews.  The programme will be shown on Motors TV in late August or early September and copies of the DVD will be available for sale via the Circuit office.  Further details will be announced in due course, but the DVD will be a must for many enthusiasts.

NEW RACING SCHOOL CARS

Our new fleet of Racing School saloons are now being run in ready for their demanding life.

Both models, the Ford Fiesta S and the Ford Focus ST2 were chosen after an exhaustive selection process and were selected for their all-round performance, handling and looks.  With the Fiesta winning the ‘Car of the Year’ award in 2009, the Focus winning the ‘Car of the Decade’ award, we know we have made the right choice.  The cars have already impressed our instructors and will form the back-bone of our Racing School courses for the coming seasons.

Also new on circuit, but being used by our medical team and senior officials will be a new Honda Civic Type R and CRV to be used as a Medical Response Vehicle and Course/Safety car at all our meetings.  Supplied by Honda of the UK Manufacturing, the cars will be seen in high profile situations on our race days and all our other major events.
